A consumer survey conducted by AFIC in five Asian countries shows that consumers are ready to accept benefits from biotechnology-derived foods.
Genetically modified foods will most likely become an increasing feature of the Asian diet in light of the region's growing demand for high volumes of quality food. The Asian Food Information Centre (AFIC) conducted consumer research to provide insights on how consumers in Asia perceive the use of biotechnology to produce foods and how likely consumers are to accept the various benefits biotechnology derived foods may bring.
The research was conducted by the Nielsen Company by an on-line survey of more than 1000 adults in 5 Asian countries. For a full executive summary in PDF format, click here.

Food Safety Fact about contaminated melamine in liquid milk
Recently, an increased incidence of contaminated melamine added to liquid milk during collection to boost crude N levels (protein) and so to mask dilution of the milk with water, so as to increase the volume of milk supplied, was monitored in China. In the past, it has been reported that in China, and perhaps elsewhere, melamine has regularly been added to animal feeds for the same reason.
