It is noteworthy that general interest magazines ran only limited coverage of food-related health and safety stories. The bulk of information on nutrition and food safety was found in specialist health magazines.

HEALTHY LIFESTLYE

17% of stories and news tracked were on healthy lifestyles for the prevention of chronic degenerative disease. This is a very broad-based topic area, and during this month subjects covered included foods and diet that are thought to slow the ageing process, antioxidants both as youth-preservers and other benefits, diets and foods to improve mental performance both for healthy subjects and those affected by dementia.

CHILDREN’S DIET AND HEALTH

Advice on healthy snacking, supplements, establishing lifelong healthy eating habits were featured. Also articles on body weight management, attention deficit disorder and how this may be influenced by diet, infant feeding and dental health also tracked.
