COMMENTS
ON MOST FREQUENTLY REPORTED ISSUES AREAS
Healthy
Eating/Lifestyles (25%)
Consistent with interest shown in the daily press, healthy lifestyle coverage in
2005 accounted for a quarter of this year’s coverage. Popular topics include
promotion of fruits and vegetables, effect of healthy diet on physical
appearance and good health, importance of fluids and general pointers to guard

Functional
Foods (18%)
Always a
popular topic, functional foods accounted for 18% of this year’s coverage,
though significantly less than 2004’s 28%. Foods to supplement general wellbeing
are given some attention, as are traditional favourites like soybeans, oyster
mushroom, ginseng, green tea and kimchi. For more information on the health

Exercise/Physical
Activity & Diet (14%)
This seems like a topic that is gaining interest with the
Korean public, with coverage up 11% from 2004’s 3%. Coverage was primarily
dedicated to the positive effect of exercise on ‘healthy’ weight loss, with
exercise programs like yoga, pilates, dance routines, and derivatives of popular

Children’s
Diet & Health (12%)
Children’s Diet & Health coverage at 12% of total sample
surveyed, was 2% higher than last year recorded media coverage The importance
of breakfast, childhood obesity, prevention measures against bird flu, and the
role of a balanced and healthy diet in child development were some of the more

Infant
Feeding/Breastfeeding (6%)
Infant feeding coverage dropped 4% from last year’s 10%
coverage, with topics including weaning and breastfeeding practices and tips, as
well as suggestions on types of foods that are suitable for children of this

Overweight/Obesity/Weight
Control (5%)
This
area recorded a similar amount of coverage as last year’s survey, demonstrating
that there is still plenty of interest in the topic. Diets, weight loss
