Diet & Health (5%)
Tracked
coverage on this topic remained steady at 5% in 2005 and 2006, with focus on
children’s nutrition and eating habits, as well as the importance of hydration
in contributing to physical and mental development. For more information about

Diabetes
& Diet (5%)
No coverage
was tracked on this topic in last year’s survey. In the 2006 Philippine magazine
survey, diverse range of issues were tracked, including articles on diabetes
and women’s health; increasing prevalence rates of diabetes; effect of birth
weight on susceptibility to diabetes; and prevention strategies. Please click on

Functional
Foods (24%)
A
significant increase in coverage from 17% in 2005’s to 24% in 2006 was tracked.
Topics noted in the magazine survey included discussion on health benefits of
various fruits (e.g. avocado, blackcurrant), foods types (e.g. fish, sesame
seeds), vitamins, spices and herbs. Although the articles covered many types of
food and food groups, they were almost exclusively focused on the additional
health benefits of foods in either preventing diseases or sustaining health. For

Healthy
Eating & Lifestyles (17%)
Always a
popular topic, a 3% increase from last year’s figure of 14% was recorded.
Articles covered in this year’s survey included discussions on suggestions to
improve diet quality (eg consume wide variety of foods, eat in moderation,
benefits of fruits & vegetables), articles promoting physical activity as a an
essential component of a healthy lifestyle, eating well and in moderation,
discussion about food groups, and breaking less healthful snacking habits. For

Overweight
/ Obesity/ Weight Control (15%)
Although
this category accounted for a sizeable 15% of this year’s coverage, the figure
was significantly less than 2005’s figure of 28%. In addition to discussions
about losing weight either through dietary modification or physical activity,
there were also articles covering discussions on exercising as prevention for
childhood obesity, the synergistic effect of combining exercise with the right
diet, and moderate consumption for sustained weight control. To read more about

Soft
Drinks / Fluids / Hydration (5%)
Coverage in
this category increased significantly from last years 2%. Primary focus was on
hydration and its importance in maintaining a healthy body. Please follow the
