Day 2: December 5th - International Food and Health Issues:
Thinking Globally, Making a Difference Locally
Session 5: Food Safety and Risk Communication
Background
– The list of food safety issues in the public
spotlight continues to grow and the role of risk communication in food
safety issues is increasingly critical. The session will spotlight major
consumer trends, issues, drivers, and consider options for
cost-effective strategies based on scientific risk analysis.
Highlights –
Top-line presentations on successful case studies
and best practice from the FIOs, from senior regulatory agency
representatives and member companies. Also, a preliminary assessment of
the impact of the 2007 World Cancer Research Fund Report on Diet and
Lifestyle Risk Factors for Cancer (release due 11/07) and ILSI
perspectives on future developments in food safety science and risk
assessment.
Objectives
– Identify collective strategy options,
and develop proposal for globally funded and coordinated project.
Session 6: Food labelling, including nutrition information on packaging,
biotechnology labelling and traceability
Background –
Demand for ever more consumer information on labels needs to be balanced
with awareness of the pitfalls of hasty implementation. This session
will consider which strategies are most effective in promoting
evidence-based, economically viable labelling policies (including no
additional labelling information), which provide measurable consumer
benefits.
Highlights
- FIO consumer research
insights and their impact to date; member company perspectives,
briefings from Asia regulatory agency representatives including Thai
FDA, Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department or China
Ministry of Health.
Objectives
– Develop proposal for increasing effective global
collaboration on labelling issue management.
Session 7: Media Relations
Background
- New information technologies present both
huge challenges and opportunities in issues management. Keeping ahead of
the curve in media trends has never been more critical.
Highlights
– Analysis and opinion from leading media
professionals, live presentations of successful broadcast and online
initiatives, detailed insight into best practice and recent case
studies.
Objectives
– Identify most influential current and future
media trends in media outreach. Identify strategies to improve
collective benefits of member company and FIO media strategies, and
inter-FIO collaboration.
Session 8: Wrap-up
Objectives
- Summary of agreements and action points.
Consolidate plans for follow-on.
